What is Roller printing? Roller printing is a technique where a metal sheet is pressed between engraved metal rollers within a rolling mill, creating a pattern or design by imprinting the texture of the roller onto the metal surface, essentially “embossing” the design into the metal; this is commonly used in jewelry making and metal art to add intricate textures or patterns to metal pieces.

In this 3-hour class, you will be roller printing a collection of patterns on metal for use in your work at home! Using different materials like lace, burlap, feathers, and dried leaves, you will practice creating unique textures in your metal. You will practice on copper before printing your favorite patterns on silver.

In this course you will learn:

  • How to prepare, anneal, and texture metal
  • How to set the proper mill pressure

 What you will take home:

  • Textured samples made by you!
  • Knowledge and understanding of a new way to add unique texture to your jewelry!

Kit includes: three pieces of 22-gauge sterling silver and six pieces of copper – all 2×2”, color handout
